MicroStrategy Desktop is the business intelligence software component
that provides integrated monitoring, reporting, powerful analytics and
decision support workflow on an intuitive Windows®-based interface. MicroStrategy
Desktop provides users with the means to easily access and share critical
corporate information from the database or SAP data source in order to
make cost-cutting decisions and improve business processes. Even complex
reports are easy to create; they can be viewed in various presentation
formats, polished into production reports, distributed to other users
and extended through a host of ad hoc features including drilling, pivoting
and data slicing. Developers and power users alike employ MicroStrategy Desktop as the primary development interface for the MicroStrategy platform; however, the interface can also be customized for different users'
skill levels and security profiles.

Direct Access
to Enterprise Data Warehouses (EDWs) |
|
MicroStrategy Desktop allows users to
create reports that access the full depth and breadth of the largest
EDWs. MicroStrategy technology accomplishes this through a highly
proprietary and highly optimized SQL Engine that dynamically creates
new optimized SQL whenever a report is run, or whenever a user drills
anywhere back into the data warehouse. |
|
Direct Access to SAP Business Information
Warehouse (BW) |
|
|
The MicroStrategy platform incorporates
a dynamic data access engine designed to access multi-dimensional
databases (MDDBs or OLAP Cube Databases) such as those from SAP Business
Information Warehouse (BW) databases. This new Dynamic MDX Engine
generates optimized MDX syntax that is fully certified with SAP BW
using SAPs high performance BAPI interfaces. The dynamically
generated MDX uses the multidimensional models implicit in SAP InfoCubes,
QueryCubes, and ODS allowing users to transparently drill back into
SAP BW for more data, without any prior programming or prior design
of drill paths. With MicroStrategy Desktop, users can create reports
that access SAP data, join data across SAP BW Infocubes and QueryCubes,
as well as access multiple instances of SAP BW at once. |

Direct Access to Operational Data |
|
MicroStrategy Desktop offers a new Operational
SQL Engine that lets users include data from any operational system
using completely free-form SQL, including stored procedures and views.
This extends the MicroStrategy metadata architecture to instantly
include attributes and facts accessed directly from non-modeled databases
on a query-by-query basis. |

Join Data from Heterogeneous Databases
from Across the Enterprise |
|
The MicroStrategy platform offers greater
data modeling flexibility, including integrated views of data across
heterogeneous data stores. By mapping conforming dimensions from different
sources within the object model, the MicroStrategy platform can automatically
join data from multiple sources in the same report document. Data
can come from any source accessible by MicroStrategy, including the
data warehouse, data marts, SAP BW and any number of operational system
databases. |

| Full Range of Analytical Functions |
MicroStrategy Desktop provides access to MicroStrategy Intelligence Server's more than 240 mathematical, OLAP, statistical and financial functions for use in any of the key performance indicators used in your organization. Additionally, users can create custom groupings of data elements for their reports. These custom groups allow users to view logical data groupings that may not be defined in the data warehouse. |
